Chen Hui replied without even looking up.
I didn’t expect her to be so decisive, and I couldn’t help but pause for a moment. “I don’t think I’ve said anything yet…”
“No need. The moment I heard you say the word ‘presumptuous,’ I knew you were going to ask if I had a boyfriend.” Chen Hui turned her head, revealing a smile I’d never seen before. “So I dismissed your question from the very beginning.”
“Okay.” I said somewhat helplessly, “You win. Although I didn’t want to ask this question, now that you’ve put it that way, I really don’t know how to ask it.”
Chen Hui, unusually, didn’t have a stern face. She smiled faintly and said, “Maybe I’m more serious at work, but I think we should keep our public and private lives separate. I hope we’re not superior and subordinate in private.”
“Oh,” I paused for a moment, “So that means we can be friends in private?”
“Then I’ll fire you.” Chen Hui smiled. “By the way, what good food does that restaurant you mentioned have?”
“You’ll find out then,” I said, deliberately keeping him in suspense. “If I tell you now, won’t you think I’m advertising for the boss?”
“That makes sense.” Chen Hui nodded, then suddenly asked, “Tang Zheng, have you ever thought about doing sales? I think you could do sales.”
Salespeople are also called business representatives. In our company, we usually call business representatives “salespeople”.
I shook my head. “The company’s sales staff are all at headquarters, which is too far. I don’t want to go. Besides, I’ve only just started this job. If I just run away like this, wouldn’t that be letting you down?”
“At least you still have some conscience.” Chen Hui smiled. “But if you want to go into sales, I can really recommend you.”
“We’ll talk about that later.”
The main reason I chose this courier company is because it’s close to the airport. If I went to the headquarters, I would be miles away from my cousin.
As we were talking, we arrived at the restaurant I had mentioned.
The restaurant isn’t big, but it’s very nicely decorated, offers a wide variety of dishes, and the food tastes pretty good. Most importantly, the prices aren’t expensive.
Once inside, I took out the menu and gave it to Chen Hui. “Take a look and see what you’d like to eat. The chefs here can cook anything, spicy or not spicy, no problem.”
Chen Hui flipped through the book, casually ordered three side dishes, and then ordered two bottles of drinks.
To make conversation, I asked, “Manager Chen, how long have you been with the company?”
“It’s been half a year.” Chen Hui smiled slightly. “Tang Zheng, now you’re practically my direct subordinate. What do you think of the company’s future prospects?”
“well enough.”
I thought for a moment and said, “The express delivery industry is so competitive now, and the fact that our company has managed to carve out a niche for itself shows that the boss has a good strategy and vision. However, if we develop a separate business specifically for large companies, and can guarantee delivery time, I think that would be feasible. But this is just my personal opinion.”
Chen Hui’s eyes lit up, and she asked with great interest, “Tell me your thoughts in detail.”
Judging from her demeanor, it’s as if the company belongs to her.
However, since she asked, I couldn’t keep it a secret, so I continued, “As you probably know, timeliness and service are the foundation of a courier company. If we can deliver customers’ packages to their designated destinations in the shortest possible time, and promise to refund or provide other compensation if we can’t, we’ll definitely attract a lot of customers.”
“Secondly, if we increase salaries and open a 24-hour business, Manager Chen, think about it. If a courier company is running non-stop 24 hours a day, even if a customer needs to ship something in the middle of the night, and it’s urgent, as long as we do a good job in terms of service and timeliness, the customer will definitely choose us.”
“Thirdly, we should selectively accept long-term cooperative clients and first capture the surrounding manufacturing market. These are companies that make electronic products, screens, or fresh vegetables. They must also require timely delivery. As long as we can promise to deliver to the customers on the scheduled date, even if our fees are a little higher, they will definitely be willing to cooperate with us.”
After I finished speaking, I took a sip of tea. Actually, these were all just random thoughts I had come up with. I don’t know if Chen Hui had thought of these things before, but since she asked, I might as well say them all.
After I finished my tea, I said somewhat apologetically, “Manager Chen, these are just my own ideas, and I haven’t had time to think them through. They might not be very mature, so please just listen to them for now.”
“No.” Chen Hui had already pulled out a notebook and was writing and drawing on it with a pen. She excitedly followed me and said, “Tang Zheng, what you said is really good. I’ll write it down first, think about it carefully later, and then send it to the higher-ups. If we can establish such a project, I’ll take you to make a fortune.”
“Well……”
I never expected Chen Hui to be so serious, and she even took me to make a fortune.
She paused, then continued, “I really didn’t expect this company to have someone as talented as you. Actually, I was reluctant to come here because this branch has the worst performance; it’s always ranked last every quarter. But I never expected to meet you. What made you even consider applying for a delivery driver job in the first place?”
I gave a wry smile. “You didn’t hire any administrators back then, did you?”
I just wanted to find a job to support myself; I didn’t think about anything else.
“All right.”
Chen Hui carefully put the notebook away, then picked up her drink and said to me, “No matter what, I still hope you can get through this month and produce good results. Don’t let me down, or I’ll have a hard time explaining to my superiors.”
“I will try my best.”
As we were talking, the restaurant brought out the three side dishes we had ordered.
Chen Hui doesn’t eat fast, but she eats better than her older cousin. Her cousin has always eaten slowly and deliberately, which has given her a unique kind of beauty, as she appears very refined.
After all, every girl has something different about her, and that’s what’s truly attractive.
The meal took almost half an hour, and I paid the bill afterwards.
While wiping her mouth, Chen Hui said cryptically, “You’re not trying to curry favor with me, are you?”
“That’s right.” I laughed. “After all, you’re my boss now. If I don’t curry favor with you, who else can I curry favor with?”
“Come on,” Chen Hui said with a faint smile. “Then try bringing me breakfast every day and treating me to a meal. Maybe I can consider giving you a promotion and a raise.”
I never expected her to joke with me like that. I laughed and said, “Okay, then I’ll bring you whatever you want to eat every day.”
“Are you stupid?” Chen Hui said, somewhat speechless. “Eating like this every day, even the most exquisite delicacies would get boring after a while, okay?”
“I haven’t tried it, so I probably won’t get tired of it.”
“You’re hopeless.” Chen Hui rolled her eyes, then rubbed her stomach and said, “Go back first, take a nap in the office, and you won’t be so sleepy at work this afternoon.”
After I drove Chen Hui to her workplace, she washed her face and went back to her workstation to lie down.
I used to be out all day long, so I wasn’t really sleepy. But I still dozed off at my desk, since everyone in the office was sleeping and I felt bad being the only one out there.
I dozed off for a while and actually fell asleep, not waking up until the alarm rang.
I got up, washed my face, and started my busy afternoon work again.
It’s nothing major, just checking which packages need urgent delivery, where to pick up a package, and answering calls from the courier.
Honestly, aside from being a bit boring, it’s not too bad to get used to.
I secretly glanced at Chen Hui next to me, wondering what she was busy with. She kept typing away on the keyboard, occasionally pursing her lips or frowning as she thought about something, and then continuing to type away.
After working in the office all afternoon, it was time to leave. I checked my work to make sure nothing was missed before turning off my computer and heading home.
Zhao Qian isn’t here, and I don’t even know who to go out drinking with. I wonder what that guy is busy with right now; I haven’t seen any replies to my messages.
I went back inside and took a shower. I was lying in bed preparing to call my cousin when, unexpectedly, Wang Qin called me.
Upon seeing the number flashing on the screen, I hesitated for a moment, but decided to answer anyway. As soon as the call connected, I heard Wang Qin’s anxious voice, “Tang Zheng, save me…”
“What happened?” I sat up abruptly in bed.
“Tang Zheng, I’m in the restroom on the second floor of Xingyao Building right now, please come and save me…” Wang Qin said anxiously on the phone, “I feel so bad right now, you…”
After that, the phone went silent.
“Hello, hello, hello…” I shouted into the phone a few times, but I didn’t hear Wang Qin’s voice.
Oh no, it looks like something really bad is going to happen.
I hurriedly got out of bed, dressed, rushed downstairs, and drove my beat-up little car toward Xingyao.
The Xingyao that Wang Qin mentioned is the name of a company, which is quite far from where I live. I don’t know who Wang Qin was drinking with there.
Judging from her tone, could she have been drugged?
I was in a bit of a rush the whole way, and I didn’t know how she was doing.
It was almost twenty minutes later when I arrived at Xingyao.
After I rushed in, I went straight to the second floor, searching for her while calling her, but no one answered.
I became even more anxious; I feared that something had really happened to Wang Qin.
“Wang Qin, Wang Qin…” I called out a few times, but there was no response.
Just then, my phone rang. I picked it up and saw it was Wang Qin calling. As soon as I answered, I hurriedly asked, “Which restroom are you in?”
“I…I’m in the restroom of room 208…” Before Wang Qin could finish speaking, I heard a loud bang from the phone, followed by a scream from Wang Qin.
My mind went blank for a moment. After taking a few steps, I saw room 208. Without thinking, I kicked the door open and rushed in.
As soon as I went in, I was stunned…
