He followed up with another cold laugh and then hung up.

I panicked completely. Could it be that Li Qiang found out about what happened between Wang Qin and me? Otherwise, why would he talk to me like that?

But if I don’t go, Wang Qin will be in danger.

Even though Li Qiang said not to call the police, I decided I’d play it by ear once I got there.

With that, he hung up. It seemed he was hiding somewhere watching me; otherwise, he wouldn’t know my movements so well.

I put my phone in my pocket and looked up at the five-story building in front of me. To say I wasn’t nervous would be a lie, considering I was essentially walking into a dragon’s den alone.

Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm myself down, then started walking toward the third floor as Li Qiang had instructed.

As I walked up, I kept an eye out, but it didn’t seem like anyone was lying in ambush. I just didn’t know if the third floor was a trap set by Li Qiang.

But I had no choice now. After thinking for a moment, I pulled out my phone and called Chen Hui.

The phone rang for a while before Chen Hui picked up. “Tang Zheng, what’s going on?”

I kept it brief. “Manager Chen, I’ve got an urgent situation, so I’ll make this quick. If I don’t call you back in half an hour, call the police for me. The location is the Haotai Furniture Factory.”

“What’s going on?” Chen Hui’s tone turned serious. “Is something major happening?”

With that, I hung up. No matter what, I had to ensure my own safety first, or things could go really wrong.

After making that call to Chen Hui, I felt a bit more confident.
