Chapter 4: Doubt

A loud “bang” came from somewhere, and Tao Ruan was jolted awake from her dream, sitting up straight instantly.

“Oh dear, was Ruan Ruan sleeping just now?”

Tao Ruan’s other roommate, Gu Xiao, came over and pulled Liao Taotao to apologize to Tao Ruan, “Sorry, we didn’t know you were sleeping. We made a bit too much noise when we closed the door.”

Liao Taotao also clasped her hands together and followed behind Gu Xiao, apologizing to Tao Ruan.

Tao Ruan shook her head.

“Why is your face so pale? Did you have a nightmare?” Gu Xiao came over and touched Tao Ruan’s forehead.

The boy next to him whistled and patted Gu Zhizhou on the shoulder, teasing, “Well, another girl who likes you and comes to confess to you, right?”

“Don’t talk nonsense.” Gu Zhizhou tossed the basketball to the boy and then left the court with Tao Ruan.

“Of course I remember you. You’re the little girl with low blood sugar that I saved. We even met this morning. What’s up? Is there something you need?”

Gu Zhizhou’s expression was too gentle, and his tone was too soothing. He was as warm and harmless as a spring breeze. Looking at Gu Zhizhou like this, Tao Ruan suddenly couldn’t bring herself to ask him any questions.

“You…do you know what my name is?” Tao Ruan asked, choking back tears.

“This…” Gu Zhizhou’s face showed genuine apology, without the slightest flaw. He said, “I’m sorry…”

Tao Ruan cried and said, “My name is Tao Ruan.”

“I’ll remember this time.” Gu Zhizhou was still gentle, and handed her another towel. “Why don’t you wipe your tears first?”
